Piping Engineer – Site & Design

LocationBaku, Azerbaijan
TypeFull-time
ExperienceMinimum 7 years

About the role

Responsibilities

  • 01• Be primarily based at the project site/site office while remaining an integral member of the Piping Engineering Department, providing both field engineering support and piping design/engineering support to the office team, and reporting to the Lead Piping Engineer.
  • 02• Provide day-to-day piping engineering support to fabrication, construction, installation, testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, and verify site works against approved drawings, specifications and design requirements.
  • 03• Assess and resolve piping-related field issues including routing conflicts, installation constraints, access limitations, tie-in issues, support problems and constructability concerns, and make timely technical decisions within approved design criteria and delegated authority.
  • 04• Support the office piping team with preparation, modification and checking of piping layouts, General Arrangement drawings, isometric drawings, tie-in drawings and other piping design deliverables based on project requirements and verified site conditions.
  • 05• Perform piping modelling and design modifications in SmartPlant 3D (SP3D); use AutoCAD to prepare or revise piping layouts, isometric drawings, field sketches and as-built drawings, and use Navisworks for 3D model review, coordination and clash identification.
  • 06• Review and check P&IDs, piping layouts, isometrics, support drawings, line lists, piping classes, specifications and 3D models for compliance with project requirements, constructability and actual site conditions.
  • 07• Conduct site surveys, field verification and dimensional checks for existing facilities, brownfield modifications and tie-ins; verify routing, elevations, nozzle orientation, supports, access, tie-in points and other relevant field conditions.
  • 08• Prepare field sketches, red-line mark-ups, as-built inputs, TQs/RFIs and technical clarifications for site changes, and coordinate design-impacting modifications with the Lead Piping Engineer and office piping team before implementation.
  • 09• Support piping material-related activities, including MTO preparation/checking, verification of piping classes and materials, identification of shortages or mismatches, material substitutions and related technical clarifications.
  • 10• Coordinate with Construction, QA/QC, HSE, Process, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, Stress, vendors and client representatives to resolve piping interfaces and engineering issues.
  • 11• Participate in line walks, punch listing, test package reviews, pressure testing and reinstatement activities, and ensure that approved site changes and final field conditions are properly communicated for incorporation into engineering documents and 3D models.

Requirements

  • • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • • Minimum 7 years of relevant piping engineering experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Refining or similar industries, with demonstrated experience in both piping design/engineering and site/construction support.
  • • Strong practical knowledge of piping design, fabrication, construction and installation, with the ability to convert actual field conditions into technically sound and constructible piping design solutions.
  • • Hands-on experience with SmartPlant 3D (SP3D) for piping modelling and design modifications is required. Proficiency in AutoCAD for preparation and modification of piping layouts, isometric drawings, field sketches and as-built drawings, and proficiency in Navisworks for 3D model review, coordinat
  • • Ability to independently read, prepare, review and check P&IDs, plot plans, piping layouts, General Arrangement drawings, isometrics, support drawings, line lists, piping classes, specifications, 3D models and vendor documentation.
  • • Strong knowledge of ASME B31.3 and relevant ASME B16 series, ASTM/API standards, project specifications and other applicable piping codes and standards.
  • • Strong knowledge of piping materials and components, including pipes, fittings, flanges, valves, gaskets, bolting and specialty items, with the ability to identify material, rating and specification issues.
  • • Proven experience in site surveys, brownfield and tie-in verification, field dimensional checks, red-line/as-built mark-ups and development of piping modifications based on actual site conditions.
  • • Good understanding of welding, NDT, pressure testing, coating/painting, piping supports, flange joints, installation tolerances, test packages, reinstatement and other piping construction activities.
  • • Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with both the site construction team and office piping engineering team, manage multiple priorities and make appropriate field decisions with minimal supervision.
